John Warner

John Warner is Founder and Artistic Director of Orchestra for the Earth, Music Director of Oxford Opera, and has conducted orchestras including the London Symphony Orchestra and BBC Philharmonic. He also regularly assists conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle and Daniel Harding, working with the Orchestre de Paris, Dresden Staatskapelle, Wiener Symponiker and others. Other recent invitations have included Het Concertgebouw’s Mahler Festival in Amsterdam, British Youth Opera and King’s Place. He has participated in masterclasses with Marin Alsop and was a Britten Pears Young Artist 2020.

His pioneering work with Orchestra for the Earth takes him across Europe for a wide variety of concerts that bring together music and nature, collaborating with leading environmental artists, scientists and charities, as well as a range of soloists including Thomas Hampson. Together they are regular guests at festivals such as the Richard Strauss Festival Garmisch-Partenkirchen, the Gustav Mahler Musikwochen Toblach and the Gustav Mahler Festival Steinbach am Attersee, where they have set up a new nature reserve in Mahler’s name.

Equally at home in the operatic repertoire, he recently conducted the premiere of a new opera, Der Atlantis-Code by Frank Scheffer at the Philharmonie Luxembourg. He conducts a full-scale production each year as Music Director of Oxford Opera, and has previously worked with Anthony Negus at Longborough Festival Opera on their productions of Die Fliegende Holländer and Der Ring des Nibelungen.  He has also conducted Wagner in concert, including a recent semi-staged production of excerpts from Tristan und Isolde.

Camille Thomas

Cello

Camille Thomas is a dynamic and captivating cellist, whose vibrant and joyful personality shines through in her music. Since signing an exclusive contract with Deutsche Grammophon in 2017, she has become recognized as one of the most exciting young musicians on the classical scene. Camille believes that music has the power to bring people together and to inspire them, regardless of their cultural backgrounds. "I strongly believe that music has the power to expand the heart, to intensify our feelings, and to give hope for the beauty and greatness of the human soul," she says.

Camille Thomas's 2023/2024 season is set to be another remarkable year. She will kick off the season with a series of concerts at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, followed by captivating recitals in Duszniki, Biarritz, and the Kronberg Festival. In addition, Camille Thomas will be performing with the National Symphony Orchestra in Washington DC under the baton of Gustavo Gimeno. As a residency artist with the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra, she will join maestro Sergey Smbatyan for four sensational concerts.

Camille Thomas will also showcase her talents with the Portland Symphony Orchestra, Sinfonieorchester Aachen, Stuttgart Philharmoniker, and Pholharmonie Zuidnederland.
This season promises to be filled with unforgettable performances, as Camille Thomas continues to inspire audiences around the world.

In addition to her live performances, Camille has released in March 2023 a new project with Deutsche Grammophon, "The Chopin Project," which pays tribute to Chopin's favorite instrument, the cello.

"The Chopin Project" is a trilogy of albums that showcases Camille's deep understanding of Chopin's music and its relationship with the cello. The first chapter, "The Franchomme Legacy," explores the close relationship between Chopin and his cellist colleague Auguste Franchomme. The second chapter, "Complete Chamber Music," features a complete collection of Chopin's works for chamber ensemble, performed by Camille and a group of world-class musicians. The third chapter, "Cello Arrangements," presents a unique collection of Chopin's most famous works arranged for the cello by great musicians from all times.

Camille Thomas was born in 1988 in Paris. She began playing cello at the age of four and made such rapid progress that she was soon taking lessons with Marcel Bardon. She moved to Berlin in 2006 to study with Stephan Forck and Frans Helmerson at the Hanns Eisler Hochschule für Musik, and continued her training in the form of postgraduate lessons with Wolfgang-Emanuel Schmidt at the Franz Liszt Hochschule für Musik in Weimar.

Camille is conquering the world stage at a staggering pace. She has already worked with such conductors as Paavo Järvi, Mikko Franck, Marc Soustrot, Darrell Ang, Kent Nagano, Stéphane Denève and with orchestras such as the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, Academia Santa Cecilia, the Sinfonia Varsovia, Staatsorchester Hamburg in the Elbphilharmonie, the Lucerne Festival Strings in the Herkulessaal in Munich, the Orchestre National de Bordeaux, and Brussels Philharmonic.

Camille Thomas plays the famous ‘Feuermann’ Stradivarius 1730 as a loan from the Nippon Music Foundation.
